Building Inner Strength, a Non-Surgical Option to Treat Pelvic Floor Weakness

There is Beauty in Power, Strength, and Control. Tap into your deepest beauty with Popp Cosmetic Surgery and BTL Emsella™, the non-surgical, non-invasive answer to pelvic floor dysfunction.

While more than 19 million women in the United States suffer from pelvic floor weakness, less than half seek treatment. There are many reasons a woman may fail to bring up issues with urinary incontinence and intimate dissatisfaction with their healthcare provider. Among the reasons given for avoiding a consultation about pelvic floor dysfunction are:

  • Fear – When it comes to a woman’s intimate health, the cure can often feel worse than the symptoms. Fear of invasive techniques, intrusive devices, and the pain of surgical treatment has stopped many women from seeking help and realize optimal health.
  • Shame – While we agree that a woman’s body is sacred, she should never feel ashamed of it, or of any injuries. Many women are led to believe that pelvic floor weakness is somehow their own fault, and rather than subject themselves to shame and lecturing, simply live with the effects.
  • Doubt – For years, women have heard of and even been sold on difficult, painful, and intimately invasive procedures with little or no relief.
  • Autonomy – While an annual exam is never something a woman looks forward to, many see urinary incontinence and sexual dissatisfaction as non-emergent, and not worthy of the discomfort of an invasive exam.

Emsella™ is here with a non-surgical answer to every one of these concerns.

The treatment is administered fully dressed, without the use of slings or implanted devices. Emsella™ utilizes HIFEM (High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic) to deliver thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions in a single 30-minute session. While we recommend up to six treatments for full rejuvenation and relief of symptoms, after the first session, many patients report that they are no longer “restroom mapping”, or planning outings around the proximity of the bathroom. They have also reported:

  • Reduced urinary urgency
  • No longer being reliant on sanitary napkins or panty liners to protect against leakage
  • Freedom to exercise without fear of pelvic failure
  • No longer fearing a laugh, cough, or sneeze
  • Significantly improved confidence

Frequently Asked Questions about Emsella™

At Popp Cosmetic Surgery, we are happy to take the time to answer all your questions during your consultation, and to discuss any other questions that come up along the way! We want our clients to have as much information as we can offer, to help them make the best decisions for their lifestyle. Here we answer a few of our most commonly asked questions regarding the Emsella™ device used to treat urinary incontinence:

Q: I’m trying to rebuild core strength, but I can’t get through a workout without urinary leakage. Is Emsella an option for me?

A: Not only are you a candidate, you are going to be pleasantly surprised by how much more effective your workouts will be once you’ve received treatment. Emsella™ helps patients achieve optimal supramaximal contractions of the pelvic muscles, which not only helps stop bladder leakage, but will help create a foundation for superior core strength

Q:Pregnancy has left me with a weak pelvic floor. Can Emsella help?

A: Whether you’ve experienced a vaginal birth or a cesarean, the weight of carrying a pregnancy can weaken the pelvic support muscles and leave you with bladder leakage. While no treatment is guaranteed to reverse these effects, Emsella™ can significantly improve the strength of your pelvic floor muscles, which results in improved bladder control, and many of our patients report pre-pregnancy strength returning after treatment

Q: How many treatments will I need?

A: The answer varies, as some patients experience relief immediately and others require longer therapeutic measures to achieve or retain results. For most patients, we recommend a six-treatment package. All patients are given post-treatment protocol to retain the strength they’ve managed to rebuild

Q: Since reaching menopause, I’ve suffered constant urgency and increasing incontinence. My women’s health professional is suggesting medication. Is Emsella an option?

A: Many women find themselves accepting a lifetime of medication, dietary restrictions, and bathroom mapping once they’ve reached menopause. While medication can reduce the symptoms of a debilitated pelvic floor musculature, they come with a high price tag and some unsavory side effects. Emsella™ can help many women regain control of their life

Q: Do men benefit from Emsella treatment?

A: Yes, even after some prostate procedures, many men find themselves suffering from incontinence and leakage. For some, the leakage is only evident after a hard workout, or at the end of the day, while others experience a constant need for liners. While treatment for men is still in its infancy, there have been some very promising results! However, the treatment has not proven effective against the effects of radiation or certain surgeries

Q: What follow-up treatment or maintenance is required?

A: After your six treatments are finished, you may require a follow-up procedure at some point. You will be given exercises to perform that will help you retain and build on the strength you have achieved, and with proper execution, our patients have been very happy with their results. We do suggest a maintenance treatment when your symptoms return.

We look forward to meeting with you to answer any remaining questions and help you design your strengthening program!
